Mexico and Switzerland: New Film Allies

The Solothurn Film Festival is using the new coproduction agreement between Switzerland and Mexico as an opportunity to dedicate its special international “Focus” program for the first time to a nation’s cinematography.

A delegation of Mexican producers and representatives of the Mexican funding institutions are invited to participate during the festival and exchange information with their Swiss colleagues on the Focus Day on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Apart from a presentation of the funding institutions from both countries, individual meetings and case studies are also scheduled.

The “Focus” film program comprises a cross-section of current Mexican cinema which has attracted a great deal of international attention in recent years due to its dynamic force and diversity. Films that will be presented by their producers in Solothurn include, among others, “Bosque de niebla” (Mónica Alvarez Franco, 2017), “La libertad del diablo” (Everardo González, 2017), “La región salvaje” (Amat Escalante, 2016), “Los Adioses” (Natalia Beristáin, 2017), “Nuestro tiempo” (Carlos Reygadas, 2018) and “Oso polar” (Marcelo Tobar, 2017).

Support for the “Focus” program is provided by the Federal Office of Culture, IMCINE, the Mexican Embassy in Switzerland, the Schweizerische Mobiliar Genossenschaft Jubilee Foundation and SüdKulturFonds.
