For over 50 years, the Solothurn Film Festival has shown a selection of Swiss films every January. The occasion provides invaluable impulses for Swiss film culture and a meeting place for audiences and filmmakers to interact. The showcase of Swiss film was established in 1966. With over 65,000 visitors, the occasion is one of Switzerland’s most renowned cultural events.
The heart of the festival program is the «Swiss Panorama», a showcase of Swiss films featuring current productions of all genres and lengths in the presence of their respective filmmakers. The program reflects the diversity of our national film production. Podiums and moderated talks offer the chance for in-depth dialogue and discussion.
The program is framed by two competitions. Out of the nominated films, the audience chooses the winner of the «PRIX DU PUBLIC», while a jury awards the «Prix de Soleure» for an outstanding, socially relevant film.
Every year, the Solothurn Film Festival presents a special program entitled «Focus» which showcases Swiss and international films dedicated to an issue of current interest. The «Focus Day» offers podiums and talks with international industry guests that give participants an opportunity to discuss this subject.
The special program «Rencontre» honors an outstanding Swiss film personality every year, and shows a selection of their works. The program provides insight into this individual’s oeuvre and helps the general public gain a deeper understanding of their work while in Solothurn.
